User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.7; rv:12.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/12.0
Build ID: 20120411064248

Steps to reproduce:

Deleted items and then Empty Deleted to remove from Trash/Deleted Items

Actual results:

The items disappeared from view in Thunderbird but remained on the IMAP server.

Expected results:

The items should have been moved entirely from the InBox folder to the Deleted folder when first I deleted them.

When I chose File>Empty Deleted, the deleted items did not get erased.
Right click>Compact or File>Compact this Folder are the only way to expunge the items.

In the Config Editor I have Expunge set to '1' (see 2nd screenshot attached) yet this still does not expunge deleted emails unless I also choose Compact.

This makes ordinary deletion of emails very much more complex than is needed to safeguard against accidental deletion. The Trash folder already provides such protection. Accidental deletion is the exception, not the norm.

need more than protocol log?
Derek, still see this?
Flags: needinfo?(derek)
Yes Wayne. Unless I Compact Folders in Thunderbird, the message remains on the IMAP server, and later reapppears in Deleted if I relaunch Thunderbird, even though it ceased to be visible after I manually deleted in from the Trash folder.

Duping then.
