Details

In CVS builds done with c/o dates on April 3, 4, and 5, E-mail messages cannot be sent. These are no debug builds with -O2 optimization. Steps to reproduce: 1. Compose an E-mail message (no attachments), plain text (happens also with HTML). 2. Hit Send. Expected result: Message is sent Actual result: An alert box says "Sending of message failed", and (nice feature) the composition window returns allowing me to copy my text to somewhere else so I can actually send it (for example with an earlier build that doesn't have this bug). Reproduceable: Always. I was advised by Varada (in newsgroup) to attach the message but I don't know how to capture a message that could not be sent other than copying the body text to a file, and the bug occurs even with a body consisting simply of "test".
Ok, I found the "Use secure connection (SSL)" option in the SMTP server area of mail/news account settings. It was set to "when available". By changing to "Never" the bug goes away and I can send. So severity should be low (I had originally said "critical"). My SMTP server is smtp.ne.mediaone.net.
