75 people have now noted that they have had issue with Gmail Video Chat in FF12 specifically, while it's working in Chrome and IE. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/924894#answer-325078 We should target Win7 with Google Talk Plugin Video Accelerator version 0.1.44.15 for our QA investigation.

I just tried this with Firefox 12.0 en-US, Windows 7 64-bit, and my laptop's built in webcam. Under https://mail.google.com/mail/?shva=1#settings/chat the camera is automatically detected, though no picture displays. FWIW, I see the exact same experience in Firefox 10, Firefox 11, and Internet Explorer 9.
Also get the same experience with the webcam built in to my Macbook Pro and an external USB Logitech webcam.

Including Kev in case we have a contact from the Google side that we can reach out to and see if this is a known issue.

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; rv:12.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/12.0 Can reproduce with the following STR (Windows 7, 32 bits): 1. Install google talk plugin from http://www.google.com/chat/video (Google Talk Plugin 2.8.7.6830 Google Talk Plugin Video Accelerator version:0.1.44.15) 2. Install a webcam. 3. Start Firefox 12. 4. Log in to Gmail. 5. Start a video call with another PC (with webcam installed) Actual result: no real time image displayed for any of the webcams in Firefox. default placeholder is displayed instead. See attached screenshot. The image is displayed as expected in Chrome(18.0.1025.162) and IE(version 9) Opera displays the same issue as Firefox.(Opera/9.80 (Windows NT 6.1; U; en) Presto/2.10.229 Version/11.62) Webcams used: -Panasonic TY-CC10 -Microsoft lifecam hd-6000 Same result for each one. Older versions (tried with Firefox 4 and firefox 7) or newer versions (latest Nightly)of Firefox exhibit the same behavior. No image displayed in video call.

Couldn't find older versions of Google talk plugin to test on. The same issue seems to have been reported in bug 713596 5 months ago for an older Gtalk version.
Thanks Virgil. Do you have a laptop with a built in webcam? I was unable to reproduce this with the built-in camera on my Macbook Pro and my System76 laptop; nor was I able to reproduce this with my Logitech webcam. Are you able to confirm?

Anthony, unfortunately no laptops with build in cameras here. We do have one monitor with integrated camera which I couldn't use to test today, but will check tomorrow and report back here.
Thanks Virgil. Removing qawanted since we seem to have found a reproducible case and have shown it not to be a Firefox regression. Perhaps Kev could reach out to Google to see if this is a known problem on their end. It would be good if they could point us to an older version of the plugin we can use to check if it's a regression in the plug-in. Please re-add qawanted if there is more QA can do.

This seems like a problem that spans multiple versions - I sent Kev an email asking about contacts at Google.

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:12.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/12.0 Verified today on a monitor with built-in camera (Asus VK222H). The video image was displayed as expected on that PC in Firefox 12. Tested on Win 7-64. With the external Panasonic camera, the image was not displayed in Firefox 12 on a computer running Win 7-64. Seems to be dependent on the type of webcam used. (In reply to Virgil Dicu [:virgil] [QA] from comment #7) > Anthony, unfortunately no laptops with build in cameras here. We do have one > monitor with integrated camera which I couldn't use to test today, but will > check tomorrow and report back here.

Closing old bugs in the Plugins component. We aren't going to track issues in 3rd-party plugins in the Mozilla bug tracker. In addition, support for NPAPI plugins will be removed at the end of this year; for more details see the post at https://blog.mozilla.org/futurereleases/2015/10/08/npapi-plugins-in-firefox/ If there is a serious bug in Firefox, it needs to be filed in the "Core" product, "Plug-Ins" component.
