see https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=750867#c2 for example the numbers in comments 2 and 3 don't add up, and the "other" seems to be for retries, then a new post comes when all is *really* done. don't have a sense right now of where to start with this, but filing this bug to track for when there's time to look deeper.

I'm not sure this is all of it, but http://hg.mozilla.org/build/autoland/annotate/636f7059d8ba//schedulerDBpoller.py#l416 is certainly capable of hitting the interval between when a job has finished with the buildbot status RETRY and the time when there is another job with the autoland status running, and determining that you're in that interval isn't going to be pretty.
