User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:12.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/12.0 Build ID: 20120420145725 Steps to reproduce: Loading a webpage Actual results: The browser jumps down the page usually focuses on an form button. If you go a level deeper and click back - it always loads the page focused on the same button. This only started happening in FF12 upgrade. Expected results: Loaded at the top of the page
If you block some site, this maybe duplicate bug 748803
no not the same error... i don't want to block these sites... they are legitimate webpages.
happens on CNN.com, jostiq.com, lifehacker.com, engadget.com etc...
I suspect it's related; since a recent update, Firefox seems to want to display the first button on the page regardless of which part of the page I want to see. The other bug just appears to be one instance of this bizarre behaviour as blocking an ad ensures there'll be a button on the page where the ad should be. This makes it almost useless as a web browser since web pages often open at the bottom of the page and I have to scroll all the way to the top in order to read it. I can't understand why anyone thought this was a good idea.
Here's an example: http://britishexpats.com/forum/showthread.php?t=749593 It's a web forum. The page should open displaying the top so I can read the forum thread. Instead it opens displaying the buttons at the bottom of the page. If this isn't fixed, I'll have to seriously consider dumping Firefox because I'm sick of wasting my time scrolling to where the browser should have opened the page.
Ah, now I know it's called 'autofocus' I was able to look through about:config and find the option to turn off 'autofocus' and that page displays as I expect it to. So I'd say that 'autofocus' is horribly, absurdly, retardedly broken behaviour.
Actually, I'd say that 'autofocus' is just very misunderstood. If you're adding focus to an input field, for example, you would expect that field to be on the screen. If you're setting autofocus on that field, you're saying that it is the first field that a user should interact with. Furthermore, if the focused text field were off the screen, the second you start typing something, it is going to jump to that field anyways which, I would argue, would seem just as broken to a user who doesn't understand that a field is in focus. What people using autofocus just need to understand is that if you autofocus on something below the fold, you're going to get scrolled down to where the focus is in view.

This fault of page jumping down half a page is due to my Greasemonkey. By a process of elimination, found out which add-on was causing this jump. So disabled Greasemonkey to stop page jumping half way down, or use Greasemonkey and live with it. Both Greasemonkey and Firefox latest versions.
On my Firefox autofocus did not fix page scroll part way down. Even after restart.

Since I have not been able to duplicate it on the newer version of Firefox and reporter hasn't responded in last few weeks, I am going ahead and closing this defect. In case, anyone still sees this as an issue, please provide steps to duplicate along with the URL/test case and reopen this bug.
