you end up with a scrollbar that goes across the entire bottom of the page. there should be no scrollbar at all.

I couldn't reproduce on the HTC Desire HD either. Any particular mobile Wikipedia page that you were testing with?

FWIW I suspect this is because of rounding errors in the different numbers we have floating around LayerRenderer.java. The same rounding errors seem to be causing bug 752959 and really should be looked at. I took a quick look at it earlier but decided it was non-trivial to fix up properly and so left it for later.
I am not seeing this on the latest nightly on a Nexus S based upon the description. There is a scroll indicator, but I believe that is to be expected and should be there. The scroll indicator moves accordingly and does not become unscrollable.
Tested Nexus S, Gingerbread, Nightly June 19, 2012.
Jeff, which version of Fennec and Android are you using?

Ok, I reproduce this once now on the Galaxy Nexus, where I got an horizontal scrollbar over the width of the screen, while scrolling. But I haven't been able to reproduce afterwards anymore.
I noticed on the HTC Desire HD, I couldn't pinch zoom at all, using trunk, so I filed bug 766498 for that.
mw22: do you have a logcat during the time you saw this?

Ok, I just was able to reproduce this again.
I pinch zoomed in, then zoomed, then I saw the useless horizontal scrollbar at the bottom, then I did some panning.
I don't see anything useful in the log, afaict.

This is what I see with ddm while panning with the useless horizontal scroll indicator:

I can still repro this on latest nightly on a nexus 4, initial page load shows a horizontal scrollbar when it doesn't need to.
