Details

After doing an installation of Mozilla0.8.1, and redoing another installation in
order to check the steps, the installer found the first installation in /usr,
the target directory for install (the string for the install directory looks
like "/usr/./"). Installer asks to delete the found installation. When answered
OK, the installer wipes EVERYTHING out of /usr. Since the installer is running
as root, this necessitates a reinstall of the OS.

I don't wish to experiment to see if it will do the same to /usr/local!
over to Samir!
