IE has a couple one button features to restore settings. Under the IE Tools|Internet Options|Advanced tab, there is a "Restore Defaults" button. Under the IE Tools|Internet Options|Programs tab, there is a "Reset Web Settings" button which reset setting to default to IE (e.g., home page, search pages, default browser). Mozilla should support similar ways for users to restore the default Mozilla settings to help users (1) if they've messed up their settings and (2) if they want to migrate from IE to Mozilla.

not a dupe! The other bug suggests to *display* the default values for individual settings. This bug wants a button to *reset* the values to their defaults. I suggest that we implement both, since they each serve a differnt need. I also suggesst that we modify the summary of this bug to read: "Return all prefs values on *this page* to their defaults" There are likely to be some *valuable prefs* on another pane that the user will *not* want to reset. A global reset button would almost always cause problems, because it would affect settings in prefs panes that the user can't see.
Peter's right. Reopening.

This would singlehandedly create a workaround to many of the profile corruption bugs. Nominating. When implemented, it would also be nice to have an "Are you sure?" confirm dialog. Removing bug 64784 from the block list. It is verified moved, and I don't have access to change it.
Wontfix, because it would be more cluttersome than useful.

> Wontfix, because it would be more cluttersome than useful. For the record: I stronly disagree with mpt's assessment. Particularly for the more complex and critical panels (e.g., Cache, HTTP networking, SSL), one button to fix a blooper that could cause Mozilla to ceise working properly is hardly "cluttersome", considering the benefits. [OT] I know mpt would prefer a browser with only two buttons (just guessing), but many of us value useful features. ;) [/OT]
MPT, don't we need this for fixing profile corruption?
No, it would be neither necessary nor sufficient to repair profile corruption.
"Sufficient" is a subjective term. To _me_ it would be "sufficient" for what it is intended: reverse bloopers in those panes, and a first-line-of-defense attempt at getting (some) things to work again. "Necessary" is another vague term. Necessary for what? Survival? No! _Basic_ browsing? No! For novices to restore settings after "fiddling" beyond their capabilities? Yes! Necessary to satify thos users who want this feature, who have a real or perceived need? Yes!
No longer blocks: profile-corrupt
