I took a cheap shot and tried setting the padding to 6dp. It looks better... but it's probably not worth patching with this as I say it can be better than that.

Sorry for low quality shot... had to take a picture with my camera. :P

The patch doesn't seem to work on my tablet (Asus Transformer Prime, Android 4.0.3). I'll leave the image up so you can see what the cheap fix looks like.

This bug is still open if anyone wants to take it.
