User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:12.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/12.0
Build ID: 20120510074600
Steps to reproduce:
Got the lattest Firefox ESR (10.0.5esr) from https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/organizations/all.html and included my extension on "Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/distribution/extensions" path.
Actual results:
The extension was not installed on the current profile. It was installed on new profiles though. When using the same path on windows or linux packaging, it works fine.
Expected results:
The extension should have been installed on every available profile.

OS: Linux → Mac OS X
Version: 12 Branch → 10 Branch
Can you reproduce this behaviour with any other Firefox builds? Please try Firefox 13.0.1 and the latest Nightly from nightly.mozilla.org.
Can you also explain both how and why you are "including my extension on Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/distribution/extensions"? Sorry, I'm just not clear what you are trying to accomplish.

Thanks for the fast reply!
I have the same behaviour on Firefox 10.0.4esr (https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/organizations/all.html). Firefox 10.0.5 is the lattest Extended Support Release version available.
I'm packaging a Firefox ESR for my organization and want to include a extension to customize how it looks (I'm using CCK extension). This extension need to be included on every user profile.
I'm following the instructions on MDN (https://developer.mozilla.org/En/Developer_Guide/Customizing_Firefox#Including_extensions_with_your_distribution_of_Firefox and https://developer.mozilla.org/en/Installing_extensions) and on Mike Kapply's blog (http://mike.kaply.com/2012/02/09/integrating-add-ons-into-firefox/)
Procedure:
- Download lattest Firefox ESR (currently 10.0.5)
- Mount dmg image
- Extract extension (xpi file) on "distribution/extensions" path
- Repackage it
Please let me know if I was not very clear or you need more info.
Thanks
This feature is not specific to Firefox ESR. Can you please try to reproduce with Firefox 13.0.1 and Firefox 4.0? Thanks

Just tested on 13.0.1. Used the same procedures, same extension, and extracted on the same path as the 10esr. On 13 it worked as design, having the extension available to all users. On 10.0.5esr the extension only gets installed when creating a new user profile.
Using the non-ESR releases, can you see if this was fixed at some point? I recommend trying Firefox 10.0, 11.0, and 12.0.

It seems related to ticket #667963 (https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=667963)
This might actually be a duplicate of bug 667963 but I'm just marking it depends-on for now. In other words, a solution to bug 667963 would likely resolve this bug. Marcus, I leave the call up to you if you want to duplicate this report to bug 667963. It's probably worth at least commenting on that bug with your particular use case and see if the devs think this is a dupe.
Thanks

Hello Marcus,
I just found your bug report from 2012 and saw that it was never updated...
can you please confirm if this is still valid with actual Firefox Version on your site (I think it will not, because we change the full UI and many other parts of the browser)
thanks for a short feedback,
Stefan

Hello Stefan!
Sorry about the delay... Unfortunately I can't confirm if it is still an issue, since I no longer work at the same organization and don't have access to the project anymore. So I can't test it again..
I recomend this to be closed.
Thanks!
