The cause might be an add-on, try in safe mode too. http://kb.mozillazine.org/Firefox_Safe_Mode
I didn't tested this in safe mode... sorry for that! It seems that this happens only with the add-on FlashGot (1.4.6 on my System) and only on the about:newtab page.
Type about:crashes in Firefox and post some recent crash reports related to your issue.
What exactly do you want/need from the crash reports?

It looks like your crash signature is already reported, see bug 707097. Anyway if you can test with FF 14.0.1 and post "solid" steps to reproduce, it would be nice. If you create a fresh Firefox profile (see https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Managing-profiles ) only with add-on FlashGot 1.4.6 installed, does about:newtab crash each time?
