According to Bug 773181 the tab count should not visible when the tab menu is opened. Nightly 17.0a1 2012-07-22 Device: Samsung Galaxy Tab (Android 3.2)/ HTC Desire (Android 2.2.2) Steps to reproduce: 1. Open a few tabs on both a phone and a tablet on the latest Nightly 2. Open the Tab menu on both Expected results: The UI is consistent across tablets and phones. According to Bug 773181 the tab number should not be displayed. Actual results: On tablets the count is displayed while on phone the count is not. Note: In my opinion on phones the user would need to see the count more then on tablets since on the phone the user can see 3 tabs at a time while on the tablet the user can see at least 5 giving him a better indication about the tab count.

This is a case of us not having a feature complete UI yet. I agree that we should be consistent, and I would like to hide the number on both phones and tablets when the tab trays are open. The only reason the number is still there on tablets is that we offer no other way of closing the tab menu at the moment. When we enable swipe-to-close tab tray on tablets, I would like to try removing the number there, too.
