When downloading a large number of messages from a newsgroup, all Mozilla windows are busy. Expected Result: The current MailNews should be busy, but browser windows (and other MailNews windows) should be usable, allowing the user to do other work while the newsgroup is being downloaded.
There must be an existing bug or two about this

Confirming, until I find a dup. (if there is one).

Also no progress is shown in the Mail/news window. I just downloaded the last 30 days of rec.games.frp.dnd (12000+ messages) it took 7 minutes at 100% CPU, no progress or any response from Mozilla or any other open mozilla component, and then it seems to work just fine. I also looked for dupes, but couldn't find one.
BTW severity should be higher than normal. It stops Mozilla for a long time, for most people this would seem like a hang. 7 minutes is a long time :)

I am experiencing the hang except that in my case it looks like my ISP's news server isn't responding and I am not seeing any network trafic so no messages ever come and and I can't do anything else with Mozilla except killing the whole thing. That's a real bummer and if I had any composes open they all that work would have been lost. The fact that it's hung and probably indefinitely (or as long as it gives up trying to download news) probably makes this bug even worst since you can get in a situation where your only way out is to kill Mozilla
I was wrong in comment #6. It was a .msf that got corrupted somehow that caused the hang.
I'm seeing this on Mozilla 0.9.8 (20020213) on FreeBSD. I can press control-N to open a new window, but very little else works. Trying to set OS->all.

Still there in Moz 1.5 final on WinXP Pro CPU usage hits 99% while downloading the ~ 80,000 in n.p.m.general.
