OS X 10.8 "Mountain Lion", System Preferences for the Magic Mouse are: - "Point & Click" (all flagged): Scroll Direction: Natural - Secondary click: on the Right Side - Smart Zoom: Double-Tap with one finger - "More Gestures" (all flagged): Swipe Pages: Scroll left or right with one finger - Swipe Fullscreen: Swipe with two fingers - Mission Control: Double-Tap with two fingers Now: - Open a new tab - Follow a link - Try to go back just scrolling/swiping left or right - NOTHING APPENS - Scroll Up or Down (can't say how much you have to scroll) - Try to go back just scrolling/swiping left or right - VOILA', You can go back in History Pay attention, if you can't scroll you can't go back.
I would add that swipe preferences like browser.gesture.swipe.left and browser.gesture.swipe.right should obey to system preference "Scroll Direction".

One finger swipe? I only have an option for two finger swipe, and that works...

I'm having the same issue with my trackpad in Mountain Lion.

I can confirm I have the same problem. I've set up custom triggers using BetterTouchTool as a workaround for now. Before doing this, though, I killed BetterTouchTool to confirm it was not causing a conflict with the back/forward Firefox gestures.
Confirming as appears the number of people with this problem grew from 12 to 44 at the SUMO post and one of them also added a comment. Some report the gesture works for a time-frame and then stops.
