Just checked today's aurora build (20120820). I'm not seeing the bug any more. My device is Galaxy S3 with ICS.

confirmed - I can get to the desktop site now on aurora 16.0a2 2012-08-21 and beta 15. Although one thing to note - on aurora, it sent me direct to the desktop site, and to get to the mobile one, I had to check 'request desktop site' and uncheck it again. Beta works as expected though (defaulting to the mobile site first until I request the desktop site)

Request desktop site is a browser specific feature that functions by sending a desktop UA instead of a mobile UA. This is not an evangelism issue. (There's nothing to request of Facebook to support this feature.) Over to the general component.
Component: Evangelism → General

I can't reproduce this at all. Xiao or Karen, do you have any steps to reproduce this reliably? Or could you perhaps provide logcat dumps when this happens again?

(In reply to Brian Nicholson (:bnicholson) from comment #7) > I can't reproduce this at all. Xiao or Karen, do you have any steps to > reproduce this reliably? Or could you perhaps provide logcat dumps when this > happens again? I was unable to reproduce this as well. Karen, do you mind giving the fennec version/device/android version of the device which you can reproduce this bug?

I'm on the latest Fx Beta (15.0, updated a day or so ago via automatic updates) using a Galaxy Nexus, Android 4.1.1. I am adding two attachments based on the current beta - one where I haven't requested the FB desktop site [Screenshot_2012-08-25-14-30-54.png] and the second one where I had requested it [Screenshot_2012-08-25-14-36-41.png] and I'm getting another mobile site variation (but not the desktop site).

I can reproduce this too; Nightly (08/27). Just sign-in and flip the mode; one get's a 'good' mobile version, and on toggle a 'bad' mobile version as seen in the above screenshots.

IMO this bug is invalid. A browser can be configured to "request" a desktop site (i.e. send the same User-Agent string as a desktop browser) but many sites will use more and better signals than the UA string to determine if a browser is "mobile" or "desktop" - for example screen size. In fact, the website will usually be stronger and more adaptive if it does something more clever than a simple UA backend sniff, and we should not ask sites to dumb down their logic for us :)
