From a comment (user feedback):
(Sidenote: I couldn’t use my desired email address as it contains a plus ‘+’ sign in the username, which is a valid character in the username. Please correct this. I use it for a clever feature of GMail …)

I'm not sure if this is an MDN bug or a Persona bug...

Hey Jean-Yves. We have reorganized a few things, so please file Hacks bugs against the "Website" product and the component "hacks.mozilla.org" in the future.
(As it happens, I am able to use + in my email addresses on Persona/MDN.)
Component: Website → hacks.mozilla.org
Product: Mozilla Developer Network → Websites
Version: Kuma → unspecified

The bug may still exist. I just mentioned Persona as an aside. The original report was about Wordpress' authentication system on Hacks.

As the one complaining initially I just want to stress that this issue aroused with a simple comment on a HMO blog post without a login. It is neither a Persona nor a MDN issue (though I haven't tested it).
