We can do a better job of optimizing our tabs UI in landscape mode, by allowing tabs to scroll horizontally instead of vertically. Given this, gestures for interacting with tabs would also be reversed. Scrolling happens from left to right, and closing tabs would happen with a vertical swipe.
This is also particularly useful when optimizing for smaller ARMv6 phones, including the Blackberry-shaped ones with 320x240 displays and hardware keyboards.

Just a first impression comment: imo, the horizontal layout for tabs doesn't work well (visually) with the curvy design. The mockups look a bit odd to me...
