Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; Win64; x64; rv:15.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/15.0 Build ID: 20120725114759 Steps to reproduce: Click the little button on about:newtab to disable the thumbnail view out of preference and privacy. Actual results: Thumbnails are apparently still generated in the background, judging by the half-gig folder in my local profile, containing files with recent dates and secret information. Expected results: Disabling the tab view should preferably stop the pointless resource waste in generating thumbnails in the background. There is supposedly an unlisted config entry (bug 752407) to force-disable this generation, but that is not a solution for anyone but developers that are intimately familiar with the codebase. Some of us work on very small home directories. Directories as small as a few dozen megs hurt already, let alone this half-gig (and assumedly growing) behemoth for a feature that shouldn't be enabled at all.
That should be bug 726347.
