RESOLVED DUPLICATE of bug 803843

People

(Reporter: geoffrey.mosini, Unassigned)

Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Ubuntu; Linux x86_64; rv:16.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/16.0
Build ID: 20121010234852

Steps to reproduce:

I updated from thunderbird 15 to version 16,0,1 from ubuntu precise-updates repository. All was going fine with version 15.

Actual results:

After the update, day after day i was getting messages saying my main partition where my local folder is located was getting full. Each time I moved big files to a backup until I discover thunderbird caches where getting huge (25GB)
I tried using the option in each box to compact the folders, which had only temporary effect. Then I diagnosed only the mailboxes from a specific host were getting fat : ssl0.ovh.net using IMAP and encription but only 2 amongst 3 of them. But the third is almost empty so the effect may be proportional to the box size. Nothing similar using gmail or imap.free.fr from my provider. Neither with ns0.ovh.net using imap but no encryption.

When installing back TB 15 I found some messages about ssl0.ovh.net :
ssl0.ovh.net : server does not support RFC 5746, see CVE-2009-3555

Expected results:

The support of imap and encryption is a critical feature, it should be supported through the versions.
Component: Untriaged → Networking: IMAP
Product: Thunderbird → MailNews Core
Finally my local installation of TB15 updated by itself to 16,0,1 without reproducing the forementioned bug.
Then I install back TB from ubuntu deposits without a glimpse.

thanks for the update. fwiw "server does not support RFC 5746, see CVE-2009-3555" may be ignored
Resolution: INVALID → WORKSFORME
Actually I spoke too fast. One of the mailbox doesn't appear to suffer from the bug anymore, but it's not the case of the other which is quite full (93% of 2G) while the first is almost empty. I had the time today to try a nightlybuild (19.0a1 2012-10-24) and observe it behaves just the same.
In the tools->activity manager window I see TB is looping the download of 8 messages in Inbox and one in another folder. This causes the file ~/.thunderbird/#profile#.default/ImapMail/#mailbox#/INBOX to grow about 500MB every hour. In subfolder INBOX.sbd I discover two files oversized, corresponding to INBOX subfolders containing each one mail. Those two mail have in common to have attachments and are fairly recent.
Going back to TB 15.0.1 AND disabling auto update ;)

If you have ideas how to debug this tell me, the nightly build has bisected the local folder so I'm not afraid to tweak on this.
