Blank screen

Expected results:

PDF file should have been displayed
switch to the external Acrobat reader in preferences/applications as workaround
Status: UNCONFIRMED → NEW
Component: Untriaged → Plug-ins
Ever confirmed: true
Product: Firefox → Core
Reproducible with Adobe Reader 10.1.4 and the 11/13 Nightly, on Mac OS X 10.7.5.
Hardware: x86 → All
Is this a regression in Firefox or Adobe Reader?
Does it happen with all PDFs or just specific ones?
Did this ever work? The Acrobat plugin for mac is a fairly new product and last I checked it didn't support the newer graphics/event model that we require for NPAPI plugins.
Priority: -- → P4
Adobe Reader 10.1.3 didn't work in 64-bit mode (only in 32-bit mode). See bug 747073.

But just now I tested 10.1.4 with today's mozilla-central nightly on OS X 10.7.5 with some of the following testcases, and didn't have any trouble:

http://acroeng.adobe.com/page_elements.html
Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.8; rv:23.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/23.0
Build ID: 20130718163513

Adobe Reader 11.0.03 doesn't open PDF files on the latest Firefox versions (Firefox Nightly 25.0a1, Firefox Aurora 24.0a2, Firefox 23 beta 7 and Firefox 22 RC).

When I attempt to open a PDF file I get this message: "Adobe Reader cannot show documents in this browser. We are sorry, but Adobe Reader is unable to show documents in this browser configuration.

Please use your browser to download this file and open it in Adobe Reader or Adobe Acrobat.

To avoid this message in the future, many browsers provide a way to turn off certain add-ons, and some are able to show this document natively. Please contact your browser vendor for more details."

Adobe Acrobat NPAPI Plug-in, Version 11.0.03 does not work in 64-bit mode and is not listed in the Add-ons Manager in 32-bit mode.
I'm not sure if it's useful information but Adobe does not claim to support any browser except for Safari on Mac OS:

FWIW, we have had a support article up since Firefox 16 was released to educate users how to work around this issue:
Given that we now use pdf.js by default, and blocklisting is really not currently designed for plugins that don't work but don't crash or cause instability, I don't think there's anything else we should do here. The Acrobat PDF reader for mac is not going to work in Firefox unless they redesign it.
