Description Kris Maglione [:kmag] 2012-11-13 12:25:54 PST
I'm not entirely sure what this add-on does. It seems to be some kind of ad-injection crapware. It gets silently installed (bypassing about:newaddon) by the FVD Suite installer, to which users are referred by the FVD add-ons hosted on AMO.

Who do I need to speak with about removing this false positive? We do not 'silently' install our product anywhere so this is an error.

Hello David,

DealCabby is being silently installed at least with the FVD Suite Installer, as discovered by Kris. This is not necessarily something the add-on is doing, but maybe is done by the installer it is bundled with. Is this bundling something you authorized?

Hello Jorge,

Thank you for looking into this.

No, we would never authorize this. I did some googling for FVD Suite and found - which is operated by Somoto. I installed FVD Suite but was unable to get DealCabby. Is this the product you are referring to?

I contacted Somoto and have asked them to cease immediately.

The installer is at I just ran it again to confirm that it does still silently install DealCabby:

Hey Kris,

Thank you for providing the link to the download. While installing , i was showed an offer screen for Deal Cabby. We didn't approve the advertiser to run this offer screen but this isn't silently installed as the user has the chance to accept or decline the offer. Is there anything we can do to get this removed?

Thank you for everything

Whether the installer offers users a chance to opt-out of the install or not, we do not allow such installers to bypass the about:newaddon page that is shown the first startup after the add-on is installed. Users need to opt-in either via that page or via the standard add-on installation dialog. We'll remove the block when we have confirmation that the installer does one of the two.
