What makes it feel slow/broken?

The camera feels like it takes a long time to get ready when accessed from the lockscreen.  This is worse on initial launch of camera.

Did it prevent you from doing what you wanted? Why?

Often a user will access the camera via the lockscreen because they saw something they wanted to quickly take a photo of.  The extra wait time cause the user to miss the photo opportunity.

How does this make you feel?

Device: Unagi, Nov. 22 Nightly.

Details:

Currently it takes 5.5s to launch the camera from lockscreen initially, and 2.5s each subsequent time.

Compare this with our reference platform (Android ICS on Otoro), which takes 3.3s to launch initially.  Android takes 2.5s to launch each subsequent time, so we are on par with them here.

Agreed. Opening is very slow if camera is not already open in background. Moving to UX-P1, because of how important camera use is to target market. 

David and/or Chris, can you comment here? Any chance of improving for v1?

We've made a lot of progress in improving Camera app start-up time in recent builds; it's currently down to ~800ms on average[1].  If this is acceptable, can we close this issue?
