Site Executive is a web-based web content management system. SE 2011 works in FF 2 through 16 (and IE 7-9). However, its WYSIWYG page editor errors out in FF 17 with: Error: TypeError: document.getElementById(...) is null Source File: http://SITENAME/sm/tabmodule.cfm?CurrentMode=EDIT Line: 153 I don't know if the real error is in SE or FF. I contacted the company a few weeks ago, but now that FF 17 is in live release I want to note the regression.
What happens if you open about:config, confirm the warning, right click in the content and select new-> string Name: "general.useragent.override" Value: "Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:17.0) Gecko/2012091204 Firefox/17.0" (both without the quotes) Restart Firefox and try it again. Important: Don't forget to reset the newly created entry in about:config !

Matti, thanks much for the spot-on suggestion. Yes, apparently the problem is userAgent sniffing, which chokes because the Gecko year string has been replaced with 17. Site specific override fixes it.
