Details

When a browser window is opened for the first time in a Mozilla process, it
always shows the home page, no matter what it was asked to do.

Reproducable: always

Steps to reproduce:
1) Start mozilla -mail
2) Request a browser window with a specific URL. For example, try doing an
x-remote "openurl(URL,new-window)" request or just try doing a "View Message
Source".

Expected Result:
Browser window opens showing the requested URL.

Actual Result:
Browser window opens showing the home page URL.

This only happens the first time the browser window is opened by a Mozilla
process. If you already have a Browser window opened, everything works fine.

My preferences currently include:
user_pref("browser.startup.homepage", "http://www.cs.cornell.edu/cucs/");
user_pref("browser.startup.homepage_override", false);
user_pref("browser.startup.homepage_override.1", false);

I am using Build Id 2001051815 on RedHat Linux 7.1. I also had this problem (at
least the x-remote part of it) with Mozilla 0.9
updating component.

I am not sure that the "cmd-line features" is the right component. As I said, I
see the same problem if I do "View message source".

bug filed to Cornell alum (me, '89), raising priority ;-)

Someone posted a mozilla script patch to m.unix to handle the url
argument better, lemme take a look at that.

I do not see anything in common between this bug and bug 82969. Bug 82969 is
about -remote openurl not working (when the new-window argument is not used -
see bug 41527 that 82969 is a duplicate of). This bug is about what happens when
the first browser window is opened:

- by using "View Message Source"

or

- by using -remote "openurl(...,new-window)"

Since I get _the same result_ with View Message Source, this bug is not just
about the -remote openurl.

This bug still exists in build ID 2001070114 on RH Linux 7.1. Just tried using
"View Message Source" after starting mozilla with just a Messenger window. As in
earlier versions of Mozilla, the first time the Message Source window showed me
the home page and only the second time it actually showed the message source.

This bug went away recently. I can no longer reproduce it using Build ID
2001071210 on RedHat Linux 7.1 - both "view message source" and -remote
openurl() work correctly even if it's the first browser window.
