Suppose you're in a movie theater or another place where phone-noise is disturbing. STR: 1. Send a SMS (text message) from another phone to your b2g phone. --> alert sound plays when it's received. 2. Turn the volume down all the way with the volume rocker. OR: Visit Settings|Sound and turn down "Ringer and Notifications" all the way. OR: Hold power button and press "silence incoming calls" 3. Send yourself another SMS. ACTUAL RESULTS: Alert sound plays. EXPECTED RESULTS: There should be _SOME_ way to silence the "incoming text" sound. I'd expect all of the methods I suggested in step 2 to do so, but none of them seem to have any effect on the text volume. I'm using my own B2G build, up-to-date as of this morning, built from following steps at https://github.com/mozilla-b2g/B2G (so, using its preferred gecko version in the "gecko" folder, etc.) I'm not sure if this affects dogfood builds at this point, but if it doesn't, I suspect it will soon. :)
I have the 12/18/2012 build and I do not get the alert sound. Are you building with development or production? do a : make production in the gaia directory and please try again.

Sorry, I was busy focusing on another b2g bug and didn't end up trying comment 1 before re-flashing w/ the beta (dogfood) image. In any case, I can confirm that this is WFM in the latest (>1 week old) beta build, w/ build ID: 20121212102240 . (Though it might be that this is a new regression on trunk, per end of comment 0) Tentatively resolving as WFM; I'll reopen if I can reproduce again when the next stable build is released.

(In reply to Daniel Holbert [:dholbert] from comment #0) > 2. Turn the volume down all the way with the volume rocker. [...] > OR: Hold power button and press "silence incoming calls" (Incidentally, that last method (pressing "Silence incoming calls") still does _not_ silence the SMS sound, and I'd advocate that it should. (since it seems like that feature intends to be a quick-and-easy "silent mode" toggle, for use when you're entering a place where noise is frowned upon) That's probably just because the button is broken entirely, though (per bug 823625), so I'm not holding this open or filing a followup for that problem. If that button ends up being fixed at some point to silence calls, but still doesn't silence texts, I'll file a followup at that point.)
