(Whiteboard: [platform-rel-Intel])

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:17.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/17.0
Build ID: 20121128204232

Steps to reproduce:

Firefox started with first tab open. I pressed ctrl-2 to switch to the second tab. It was a Yahoo mail window. I then scrolled down through my emails by pressing the down arrow button.

Actual results:

Instead of taking less a second to switch tabs, it takes 3-5 seconds to switch tabs. And when I press the down arrow, it takes about 2-3 seconds for Firefox to respond instead of instantaneously.

Expected results:

Switching tabs should have been very quick. And pressing down arrow should have resulted in the scrolling almost instantly.

I deleted Firefox (including the profile) and reinstalled. I tried resetting my profile. I turned off all add-ons and extensions. If I turn off Hardware Acceleration, that problem goes away. I am running the latest version of Firefox 17.0.1. In previous versions, I do not recall having this slowness issue.

My computer is a Dell XPS15 laptop (L502x). It has two graphics adapters, the Intel HD 3000, and a GeForce GT 525M. The default configuration is the Intel graphics adapter, and that is what is being used for Firefox.
Please post the graphic section (not everything) from about:support
Component: Untriaged → Graphics
Product: Firefox → Core
Does it appear only with Yahoo Mail? Or with any random website?
Flags: needinfo?(linshim)
It happens with all websites. Switching tabs is very slow. And so is scrolling. Verified slowness with Gmail, Yahoo news, and several other sites.

Ok, so could you provide the section "graphics" from about:support (type it in the location bar), please.

Believe it or not, they are the latest video drivers. I checked the Dell site today to confirm.

The stock Intel video driver (which has been updated) is not compatible with my Dell. If you try to install from the EXE, you get an error message saying that it is not compatible. if you try to install from the ZIP file, you get the blue screen of death and need to do a Windows system restore (under system, system protection tab) to recover from it.
Not sure if I was clear. I did try that exact driver you linked to. I tried both the EXE and the ZIP versions - neither is compatible with the Dell. Perhaps it has to do with the laptop have two graphics processors?
Sam: Could you please test a nightly build and see if you still get the slowness ?

Intel released new 9.17.10.3062 drivers for Sandy Bridge HD3000. Can you try and test these drivers? I'm not sure if it will install though due to stupid checks by the Intel installer. You might have to uninstall Dell version of the Intel graphics driver first.

I use this driver version "9.17.10.3062" (Firefox 23) and see a similar problem with this site, scrolling or sliding down:
http://www.computerfutures.com/us/about-us
This ONLY happens when enabling hardware acceleration.
Disable hardware acceleration and the scrolling or sliding works normal for this site.

The performance of Firefox on Intel HD3000 is so weird. Facebook just makes Firefox stuck and freeze and unfreeze.

Be sure your Intel drivers are up-to-date. You can type about:support in the location bar and paste the "graphics" section here.
I also have dell l502x and have experienced the same problem. Not only with Firefox but with Microsoft Word 2013 as well. Had to disable hardware acceleration on both Soft-wares to get them to work properly meaning without lagging.
Believe it or not, Intel's newest driver isn't compatible with l502x HD3000 graphic card! So in the end I think there is something wrong with this laptop, not a program specific problem.
I can confirm this on firefox 35 and intel hd3000 (using lastest drivers)...it only happend with firefox (slow scrolling), opera and chrome works great...
