As a user, I want the ability to display the password text when I'm setting up an email account, so that I can see whether I'm entering it correctly. This is especially important for longer passwords.
totally forgot about this. asuth, cyee, do you think we can get this in a future version?

We should always with any type=password field give the option to show the password.

I raised this issue on dev.platform and the tentative consensus was reached to do this as a platform feature (across all Firefox platforms). The bug for that is bug 502258.
We'll leave this bug open here for tracking and duping purposes, but unless it becomes clear that v3.0 won't have the platform feature, I don't think it makes sense to implement this directly in the email app. I've removed the polish flag to avoid people ending up directly on this bug thinking there is something to be done here.
Depends on: 502258
