ircii control codes show up as boxes instead of modifying the text Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:0.9+) Gecko/20010525
This looks like a companion bug to bug #71549. IrcII uses ANSI codes, right?
It looks similar, but I couldn't tell from the summary It looks like one of the attachments in there may fix it. On the other hand, the codes I am talking about are all single characters ex: bold = ^B, unerline = ^_ and inverse was ^V iirc Mirc is all ^Cxx,yy where xx is the foreground, and yy is the background Ansi is all multichar escape sequences
