This bug is for the translation of the updated "Firefox Flicks" site for 2013.

The Firefox Flicks site is a video contest targetting talented filmmakers wishing to create fun videos about Mozilla and Firefox. This is the third iteration of this contest, the first contest was in 2006, the second contest was in 2012 and this year contest will focus on Mobile and Firefox OS promotion.

Here is the url on the development server:
https://firefoxflicks-dev.allizom.org/it/

We are at stage one in which we announce the contest and make a call for participation to this contest.

The translation format for this project is .po files that you are on svn but also available through the Verbatim Web translation tool:

https://svn.mozilla.org/projects/l10n-misc/trunk/firefoxflicks/locale/it/LC_MESSAGES/messages.po
https://localize.mozilla.org/projects/firefoxflicks/

This is a 5750 words site but if you did the project last year, 3750 are reused, which means a translation of about 2000 words. Some of the strings similar to strings last year are also marked as fuzzy.

Please also note that there is one special string that is actually a set of about 20 strings that will nor be used in the site but will be inserted into a downloadable PDF for the Creative brief, this brief is actually a presentation with just a few words on each slide. In this special string, each slide change is indicated by an html line break (<br>) and if the same sentence is meant to be split in two slides, there will be an ellipsis indicating it, ex:

With Firefox OS, we're making smartphones more accessible...<br> ...while empowering more users in more ways.

This way we will be able to provide a localized Creative Brief and not just one in English.

if you can, please prioritize the translation of the brief over the other strings, this way our engagement team will be able to create the pdf's for your language while you are translating the rest of the site. We will of course provide you the pdfs so as that you can give feedback.

We are targetting a launch of the site with the announcement for January 22, there will also be further updates later this year to put the competing videos online and announce who the winners are.

Thanks!

I have committed the localizzation of the big string:

Sandro
I have a doubt.
I have used HTML entity to show “”, is correct? Or I must use the unicode character?
Hi Pascal,
yesterday I have committed the last strings translated by Sara.
r112560
unfortunatelly the test page has not yet been updated:
https://firefoxflicks-dev.allizom.org/it/
Your translation does display for me locally, so it seems that it is just the dev server that is no longer auto-updating the locales, CCing mkelly about that

mkelly, is there a cron job updating the locales ?

There is, but flicks pushes are failing right now, I'm working on fixing them and will update this bug once they're working again.
flicks-dev seems to be working again and I can see the updated it translation at https://firefoxflicks-dev.allizom.org/it/ . Let me know if you run into any more issues.
Thanks Michael, now it works.

I have a question, is it possible to remove the second Python's replacement command in this string:
If you're looking for additional materials - whether music, video footage, artwork or graphics - we suggest you investigate public domain media. <a href="%(link_ccommons)s" rel="external">Creative Commons</a> has a nice search service for locating public domain work. You can <a href="%(link_pdwiki)s">read more about the public domain at Wikipedia</a>.

because the wiki link redirect to the english Wikipedia and replace it with the link to the italian one?
There would be another small issue with layout: in the upper bar the Firefox Flicks logo slightly overlaps the "About" ("Di cosa si tratta?") button. I think some other locales have similar issues.
CCing craigcook about the layout issue.

It defaults to the English one for now, but when we activate the it locale for production we'll also go in and add a link to the Italian Wikipedia. So no need to worry.

Thanks, the site for phase 1 is released in Italian, I am closing your bug at least for now, I may reopen it or open a separate one fot the second phase of the site next week.

Excuse me, I noticed the site is not updated to the last commit (unlike the dev site, which is alright), resulting in the first string under the Prizes section being still displayed in English. Are there any chances for the strings to be updated before phase 2?
Sara we have a push planned today (that will also activate Ligurian), it should update your locale to the latest version.
Thank you for the info. Then it's all good.
Hi Pascal why the creative brief (Brief creativo) is not localized in italian?
it's being prepared and will be pushed soon
mmm, I may be wrong, I'll check with Greg tomorrow
Any news about the push that should update the Italian locale? We still have a few sentences in English and the link to the Creative Brief heads to the en-US version.
Thank you.
The push should happen in a few hours, sorry for the delay Giuliano
The "transparent black shadow" that is on the left of the image just under the title, is an oval instead than a circle and so the sentence "Guarda i vincitori del 2012»" sticks out of it.
This has been pushed to production!

I believe craigcook is currently working on a fix for this for our next major relase, which is currently scheduled for next week.

Nice to know. Thanks again!
Attached image The link to Blog wraps
As you can see in the attachment, the link to Blog wraps. We need more space in order to make it stay on the same line.

Unfortunately I think this is unavoidable. We can close up the space between links a bit, but I don't think that will be enough. I've built the navbar so at least it can wrap to a second line and remain readable and usable, but that may be the best we can do without completely redesigning the header. It's a design problem with any horizontal navigation.

Maybe there's an alternative translation of the first "Di Cosa Si Tratta?" link that might be shorter and still make sense to readers?

Yes Craig, following your suggestion we're trying to find another way to translate "About" in Italian. We'll commit the modified strings asap.
Many thanks for your explanation and your kindness!
Committed shorter translation for "ABOUT".
