Private messaging is one thing that not only contributors but also users of the site are using. We should be able to offer this to them on mobile too.

I have designed some mockups of the inbox/messages in October as part of the whole mobile redesign.

Thanks Bram, I thought you had done this already, but searching for "private messaging" I came up empty, should have looked for "inbox" instead ;)

From my point of view this is a great base for the private messaging view. 

Rehan, is this sufficient to base the mobile version of the private messaging on?

If you’re talking about a new message notification in the form of a banner, popup, etc. – this feature currently doesn’t exist on the desktop, and is not going to exist on mobile.

But something that we can do is put a little bullet in the sidebar menu to indicate if there are new unread messages. This is not a final design. It’s something I whipped up quickly; but it should give you an idea of my thinking.
