We need a Flicks t-shirt design, please!
I had two thoughts for the direction of this. Happy to hear input, opinions, etc. Thinking we should go with black, grey, or *maybe* navy for the shirt color.
1st direction idea: Standard T-shirt design with Flicks logo on the front and copy on the back (very similar to last year's)
2nd direction idea: Bring in the blue film strip motif and wrap the strip around the shirt, with text and logo either in the stripe or adjacent.

How about next Thursday, 01/24 as the initial date? If that works, I'll Whiteboard it.

Hi everyone,
I've attached an example of a simple t-shirt design making use mostly of the 'Flicks blue' accompanied by the logo on the front and tagline on the back. Please let me know what you think of this as an option.
Thanks!

Hey Matt, I think this looks good, but I wonder if there's something you can do along the lines of the popcorn sticker. I'm not saying out an image of popcorn on a shirt, but maybe there's something else creative and related to film that could go on it or be incorporated in the design somehow. What do you think?
This is an example of the kind of thing I'm thinking, taking something from one area (in this case, delivery) and combining it with a clever idea and placement on a shirt:
http://files.coloribus.com/files/news/part_0/1055/13.jpg
I can give something a little more quirky a try...I like the example you showed. Maybe we can actually do something with the popcorn bag, and have a few popcorn pieces falling from the bag down the lower half of the t-shirt or something along those lines.

+1 to the "quirky" slant - that FedEx shirt is pretty neat!
I also like the thought of trying to integrate the Popcorn bag.

Can we confirm first that we can get those types of shirts printed? I know that in the past we've had issues with these more 'creative' shirt prints because of costs or other vendor complications. I'd like to confirm that we can print these and are in budget before spending too much time.
Lizz, can you please let us know? Thanks.

Just wanted to throw this idea in...its going a bit more out of the box..literally, but hopefully keeping within budget as well.

Love it! I wonder if we could reduce the amount of information within the graphic for this usage, though. Either remove the URL and put it on the back with the tagline, or ditch the tagline entirely and just put the logo on the bag (on the front) and the wordmark and URL on the back.

Hi Matt! LOVE this popcorn shirt!!
Could you add a Mozilla wordmark to the sleeve? I found out it's a standard thing now. It should be no smaller than 2.5" wide. Lee suggested 2.75"w X 0.7"h, but he said it may be a tad too big, so feel free to play with size.

Thanks Lizz!
That's not a problem to add the Mozilla wordmark, I can play around with the sizing, to see what will look best. I am waiting for final go ahead with this, if all are on board I can have the print files packaged up soon.

Sounds good. Just got some feedback from the team - could we please see what it looks like with the black background in the logo either removed or colored white (whatever you think looks better).
We're leaning towards this shirt in Lapis: http://store.americanapparel.net/product/?productId=bb401

just posted a few more options with reduced colour and detail for both.
I think Lapis is the right one to go with!

These both look good to me, but I'm now wondering about the URL on the back. I didn't mind combining the wordmark and URL on the sticker, where we didn't have a lot of space, but here I think we should write out the URL separately in text.
Matt, Lee, what do you think?
Comment 20•13 years ago
|
||
I agree we should write out the URL separately. I'm in favor of v3a as the white/diagonal behind the logo helps to anchor it. Love the fallen popcorn kernels!

I don't mind trying out the full URL beneath the wordmark. I was concerned about having orange appear on the colour blue that I have in the mockups. But if I layout the URL in orange on the Lapis colour we are considering to go with, it may offer a nicer contrast.
Comment 22•13 years ago
|
||
The URL doesn't have to be orange, does it? I would keep it white to be consistent with everything else on the shirt.
Comment 23•13 years ago
|
||
+1 I think the URL in white would look fine, if the URL was distinct in font weight and size, from the wordmark

Hi Matt - thanks for the new draft! Two requests from the team before we call this one final:
1. Can you change the film strip color back to the original (pretty sure it was black)?
2. Can you please put the Flicks wordmark on the Popcorn bag, a la the Popcorn Sticker? The concern is that with no wordmark on the front, people seeing only the front of the shirt won't know what it's for.
Thanks so much!

I think going back to black will look good, but I also think the white is more graphic/iconic and helps the logo stand out more. It's also cleaner having all the printed elements except for the logo be in white.

I see what you're saying, but I also don't think it's 100% imperative for people to know what it's for when they first see it. It also depends how this will be used, but if it's going to be a giveaway type thing, then I think people are more likely to wear it (and wear it more) if it's simpler and more graphic on the front.
Is there any wiggle room on either (or both) of these requests?
I just worry that we're getting in the way of making a really cool shirt by trying to make it do too much and look exactly like other elements.

Thanks for the feedback, Matt.
Definitely want to change the strip color back to black or a dark grey - we all agreed on that one. We all felt that with white, the popcorn bag outline gets lost so we all +1'd black.
Kristin had requested the wordmark be added. I'll share your feedback with her and see what she thinks. More on that soon.
Thanks so much!

I checked with Kristin and no wordmark on the front is OK.
So then, Matt, the only change that needs to be made is of the film strip back to black.
Then we can move for final approval today and get the art files to the printer in the next couple days.
Thanks!

Hi everyone,
I've attached an example of what the final t-shirt layout looks like. Hope everyone is ok with this, seems like the only change from the previous round was adding the black diagonal back in. I will also post the print ready files which include Illustrator files for the front, back, sleeve logo, and dropped kernels-lower left.

Hey Matt. Thanks for exploring this, but on further reflection I don't think we're quite there. The knocked-out Flicks logo just isn't iconic enough...am worried people won't really know what it is.
So, if you're able, we'd like to try a couple of different directions. The notes below are starting points, so please add your own creative twists as well, but perhaps something like:
- a version of the earlier shirt, but without the popcorn motif, Mozilla on the sleeve and URL on the back. In other words, something as clean & simple as possible, but in color.
- something more abstract...reflective of the overall Flicks visual style but not using the logo. Perhaps using elements like the scallops or graphic bursts (from the site)...I'd guess there's a cool way to represent Flicks using that type of thing, especially if we kept it really minimal. In lieu of the logo we'd want to put Firefox Flicks in type.
Sorry about all the changes in direction, and thanks for bearing with us. Am looking forward to seeing what you come up with (and am open for questions if you have any).

Hi everyone,
Just added a couple of variations for the Flicks tee. v5 being very simple, sticking to the logo as the main visual. v6a and b are slight variations of each other...going for a bit of an abstract look based on some of the common elements used throughout the Flicks campaign. Let me know what you think!

Thanks Matt. Re: v6a and v6b, they both feel very rectangular. Could you do something more out of the box? (literally)

Ok, maybe we can do something on a larger scale with large halftone bursts coming from the bottom of the shirt or at other end points like the sleeves or collar? We could also add the scallops to cut the lower half of the shirt...I can mock something up based on this idea.
Comment 43•13 years ago

It's a tricky balance...overall we want to keep things fairly simple and clean, so not sure we'd want to do something like add the scallops to the bottom of the shirt. I would focus on the center area.

Here is a very simple option, making use of the halftone bursts....it gives it an abstract look...reminds me of flashing lights in a crowd.

I love that. Nicely done.
One general question for everyone: If we have the wordmark on the front, do we have to repeat it on the back? Could we just have the URL there?

Good point, Matej. My gut says that we wouldn't need both. However, I'm going to show the new designs to Kristin this afternoon during our 1 on 1 and I'll make sure I ask her what she thinks re: double wordmark.

Hi Matt,
I met with John, Pete, and Kristin yesterday and today. The final consensus is to go with version 5, sans the Mozilla wordmark on the sleeve and nothing on the back.
So just the Flicks word mark and logo on the front.
Could you please make those changes?
Thank you very much!
