Using may30 commercial trunk build, linux rh6.2 linux only: mac OS 9.0 and win98 okay. This issue found when verifying bug 82476 Linux only: Can't successfully save to an online draft folder while online after having received error saving to that draft folder when offline. We don't error, but rather stay in the "copying to drafts folder" state forever. Steps: 1. IMAP account: disable Sent copy pref to keep this simple. Drafts are set to go to the IMAP/online draft folder. 2. Go to mail window, login to IMAP account. 3. Create a new message, save to draft and close it. This is just to check that the online drafts folder is indeed accessible while online. 4. Go offline, don't download. 5. While offline, New Msg. Type addressee, subject, body. Click Save (to draft) or use menu item to save as draft (didn't see a menu vs. button difference in tests done). 6. Error message comes up "unable to save to draft folder". OK the error. Close the compose window. 7. Go online, don't send unsent messages. 8. When online, still in same IMAP account, New Msg. Type addressee, subject, body text. Click Save to save as draft. 9. You never get the "unable to save draft" error, the message compose window's status text stays at "copying message to drafts folder" forever(waited many minutes), barber pole spinning. Must close the compose window, OK to the "there is mail being sent" alert. Side note here, if you quit the application immediately after this we crash. Result: can't successfully save to draft folder when back online, don't get any error must use close box (because in this case the Close menu item is disabled) to close compose window.

this turns out to be a generic problem. DNS lookups stop working after going offline, then back online. to test it: start up browser, go to google.com (it works) go offline (toggle the indicator) go online (toggle the indicator again) go to yahoo.com (it will spin forever, "Resolving host ...."

switching components to browser
Component: Mail Back End → Networking
Product: MailNews → Browser
This bug is related (dupe?) of this bug 82468 ? For a simpler Mail test. -Login to your mail account -Go offline -go online -click on a message that's not been downloaded. -'barber pole spinning' starts

gchan: could be a dup, but gordon or darin should decide.

i have my suspicisions that this is indeed a dupe of bug 82468. gordon is in the middle of fixing up the DNS service... i'll check out his branch to see if this is fixed there.
This seems to be fixed on the DNS_BRANCH (now). Targeting for 0.9.2, and I'll mark it fixed when I landed the branch (2 files).
Status: NEW → ASSIGNED
Target Milestone: --- → mozilla0.9.2
DNS_BRANCH landed. Marking FIXED.
