I'm re-creating a dialer meta bug as Bug #817052 has been un-metafied and we have some adittional ideas for performance improvements.
I will create separate bugs that block this one.

I have noticed that not showing any images in the dialer first screen shave also 150ms of startup time. We tried to make a sprite but it seems to make things slower. Maybe reducing the quality of images may help too.
