User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.2; WOW64; rv:18.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/18.0
Build ID: 20130201065344
Steps to reproduce:
- Launch either Firefox 18.0.2 stable, Firefox 19 beta 5 or Nightly 21.0a1 (23/2/10) 32bit
in a clean profile.
- Launch Task Manager (win8 x64) and monitor Firefox.exe's/Nightly.exe memory usage
- Visit http://www.scrolldit.com.
- Wait for the 'Loading posts' message to disappear, then press key 'End'. Repeat.
Actual results:
Firefox memory goes from ~40 MB (initially) :
to 200 ΜΒ first opening scrolldit.com
to 350 MB pressing End first time
to 600 MB pressing End second time
If you continue pressing End, FF memory usage will go up to 1500 MB or more, and eventually FF will crash.
Expected results:
Memory usage should be much lower.
This is the memory usage of other browsers when visiting scrolldit and pressing 'End' two times :
IE10 x64: ~ 100 ΜΒ <--- note, it's the x64 versio.!
Opera 12.14 ~200 MB
Summary: Huge memory usage when viewing scrolldit.com → Huge memory usage with scrolldit.com
Please, provide logs from about:memory?verbose (with a fresh profile and only a tab with the offending website).

If I have scrolldit in one tab, and press ctrl+T in order to open a new tab for about:memory>verbose
when I switch to the new (empty) tab, memory usage in Task Manager goes from 720 MB to 250 MB.
(if I switch back to the scrolldit tab, memory goes instantly back to 720 MB )
So, instead of opening a new tab, I opened about:memory>verbose in a new window (ctrl+N)
so that the memory usage in Task Manager remains the same (720 MB).
I pasted the memory log into notepad.

Thanks. I browsed the website you posted and I know this kind of websites which display images as you are scrolling down (like on infinite wall). The memory grows up endlessly. :/
Firefox discards the pictures in memory when you switch to another tab, that's why you observed the memory decreased.
It sounds like a dupe of a previous bug about the same issue.

Can you reproduce this issue with a clean profile?

My initial post and the about:memory?verbose log I made
are both on a clean profile.

FWIW, after Bug 689623 I get a ~40-50% drop-down on Memory Usage.
