Customization feature for "Network Identity and Time Zone (NITZ) ON/OFF by default
Whiteboard: [cust]
Should it be off by default? After configuring this to OFF, users can't turn it on back from UI. Is it ok?

Hi, Sorry but, at least for latam custom needs, NITZ should be set to on by default. The carriers included in the first wave were asking to have it enabled. Thanks! David
adding product/UX to consider exposing NITZ settings somewhere to prepare for upcoming new markets with NITZ set to off by default
I think this one can be handled by bug 833060 which provides a way to know if the NITZ is currently available or not (through the setting "time.nitz.available" set by the platform).
Hi, Just for clarification, at least for LatAm needs (i.e. not considering Brazil), NITZ should be set to ON in any case. Thanks! David
(In reply to Joe Cheng [:jcheng] from comment #3) > adding product/UX to consider exposing NITZ settings somewhere to prepare > for upcoming new markets with NITZ set to off by default actually the automatic time setting UI is supported now. just checked with Gene. The UI shows/hide base on the SIM's NITZ capability. (it happens that my SIM does not support NITZ so i don't see it in UI but Gene's SIM does) so comment 1 and comment 3 are irrelevant now.
> ... The UI shows/hide base on the SIM's NITZ capability. (it happens that > my SIM does not support NITZ so i don't see it in UI but Gene's SIM does) > NITZ is carrier's network capability and not SIM's capability. Device is not able to get NITZ in home network, but it may be able to get NITZ in roaming network.
Hi, Sorry, but I have some doubts here. When NITZ is enabled, being in a nw supporting NIT, what happens when a user tries to manually modify time/date? Is NITZ set to OFF and then not possible to enable it again? Sorry, but I cannot test this in Madrid (no nitz available). Joe, do you know what would be the expected behaviour? Thx! David

hi David, in settings -> Date & Time if the network has no NITZ, then you should options to change date/time. if the network has NITZ, you will see an additional item with a ON/OFF Toggle that says automatic date/time. if the toggle is off, you will be presented with the UI to change time/date but if the toggle is ON, then you will NOT be presented with options to change date/time
