User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Android; Mobile; rv:19.0) Gecko/19.0 Firefox/19.0 Build ID: 20130212081702 Steps to reproduce: Attempted to visit http://m.cumhuriyet.com.tr and http://cep.hurriyet.com.tr/Default.aspx? Actual results: Main web pages (indexes) were treated like binary (eg zip) files and prompted to be downloaded Expected results: Site indexes should have displayed
Apologies for not stating it in original report. Firefox stable (non beta) for Android behaves exactly the same wrongful manner.
I noticed both sites use a rather unconventional Index.aspx (first char in caps) naming in their root pages. They may be sharing similar software as both are Turkish newspapers.

Feel free to send an email to the web author of the site to tell them that Firefox for Android is a modern browser and for them to recognize that our browser is more than capable of rendering their site.

Summary: Website "index.html" (index page) prompts to download instead of being displayed → http://m.cumhuriyet.com.tr serving WAP to Firefox on Android
Additionally, http://m.gazetevatan.com/ (another very popular newspaper site) prompts the prompt. I can only guess they share same CMS/server system. However, if this is really only happening to Firefox, it will become a seriously bad first impression in Turkish mobile market. I know a single internal contact from one site I reported and nobody else to reach. I seriously doubt they will change a single configuration line in server. As I am on mobile, I can't help further.
http://m.gazetevatan.com/ seems fixed (tested Android and FirefoxOS UA string in desktop build). Cumhuriyet still broken though. Anyone able to help us find contact details for this site, like links to a "contact us" form? Tried Twitter: https://mobile.twitter.com/MozWebCompat/status/363019200433889282

There is no automatic redirection from www. to m. on any devices. Just to clear that out, for the future. About and GET http://m.cumhuriyet.com.tr/ 200 * Firefox Android 302 /Default.aspx application/vnd.wap.xhtml+xml '-//WAPFORUM//DTD XHTML Mobile 1.0//EN' * iOS 302 /iphone 301 /iphone/ application/xhtml+xml '-//WAPFORUM//DTD XHTML Mobile 1.0//EN' * Firefox OS (same than Firefox Android) * Opera Mobile Android (same than Firefox Android) * Opera Mini (same than Firefox Android) In the body, there is nothing specific which is WAP related. An HTML5 doctype would be fine or application/xhtml+xml (if they are sure to deliver well-formed markup). # Firefox for Android GET / HTTP/1.1 Accept: text/html,application/xhtml+xml,application/xml;q=0.9,*/*;q=0.8 Accept-Encoding: gzip, deflate, compress Host: m.cumhuriyet.com.tr User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Android; Mobile; rv:18.0) Gecko/18.0 Firefox/18.0 HTTP/1.1 302 Found Cache-Control: private Content-Length: 156 Content-Type: text/html; charset=iso-8859-9 Date: Wed, 20 Nov 2013 19:49:01 GMT Location: http://m.cumhuriyet.com.tr/Default.aspx Server: Microsoft-IIS/7.0 Set-Cookie: WEBTRENDS_ID=192.168.1.6-2417389312.30336553; expires=Sat, 18-Nov-2023 19:49:02 GMT; path=/ Set-Cookie: ASP.NET_SessionId=imsqym45j24ta455tlpbidbe; path=/; HttpOnly Set-Cookie: NSC_bnwh - xbqtjuft=ffffffffc3a01f2d45525d5f4f58455e445a4a423660;expires=Wed, 20-Nov-2013 20:12:25 GMT;path=/ X-AspNet-Version: 2.0.50727 X-Powered-By: ASP.NET GET /Default.aspx HTTP/1.1 Accept: text/html,application/xhtml+xml,application/xml;q=0.9,*/*;q=0.8 Accept-Encoding: gzip, deflate, compress Host: m.cumhuriyet.com.tr User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Android; Mobile; rv:18.0) Gecko/18.0 Firefox/18.0 HTTP/1.1 200 OK Cache-Control: private Content-Length: 6589 Content-Type: application/vnd.wap.xhtml+xml; charset=iso-8859-9 Date: Wed, 20 Nov 2013 19:49:13 GMT Server: Microsoft-IIS/7.0 Set-Cookie: WEBTRENDS_ID=192.168.1.6-2538019312.30336553; expires=Sat, 18-Nov-2023 19:49:14 GMT; path=/ Set-Cookie: ASP.NET_SessionId=w3q1ya55aarpffyabgxccw45; path=/; HttpOnly Set-Cookie: hereWeAdUID=fead64c671fb451fbc23626815374fde; expires=Sun, 20-Nov-2033 19:49:14 GMT; path=/ Set-Cookie: NSC_bnwh - xbqtjuft=ffffffffc3a01f2d45525d5f4f58455e445a4a423660;expires=Wed, 20-Nov-2013 20:12:37 GMT;path=/ X-AspNet-Version: 2.0.50727 X-Powered-By: ASP.NET

So After giving a bit of thinking… I'm split on this one. On Android, when Opera Mobile and Firefox Mobile are installed, 1. Open Firefox 2. go to the site http://m.cumhuriyet.com.tr/ 3. get a pop-up inviting the user to open the site with Opera Classic (Mobile) 4. Having access to the site On one hand, the site doesn't benefit anything of sending Firefox and others to a simple HTML file. (Accessing the iphone one is working properly) On the other hand, why Firefox Android should fail on WAP sites? We could still reprocess on the fly with the HTML parser, when we see the WAP Content type. I think it would be beneficial for many sites and better for the users. THEN once this is done, we could TE for having the sites sending us the hifi version instead of the WAP version.

OK I decided to go ahead and open the Bug 941241 to see if we can have a resolution more general for this type of issues. At the same time we can try to contact the Web site. Now… who has knowledge of Turkish language?

As original bug reporter, I know Turkish language and have an internal contact from cumhuriyet.com.tr , I am trying to contact him right now. Will post the progress as it happens.
