Details
It would be useful to be define a filter rule whose action was to colour an
incoming message.
The message would be displayed in the header list in that colour, much like much
like critical messages are displayed in red at present.

Bug 81292 plans to allow users to colour their messages to help them prioritise,
but jglick mentioned that setting colours could also be a filters action. So
this is a duplicate.

Adam, you can always create a filter that sets the priority on all emails
matching some criteria and thus colors the emails in that priority's color
(i.e., strong red for highest priority)
I know that, but I'm after something a little more powerful.
For example, I'd like to be able to colour a message blue if it comes from the
netscape.com/mozilla.org domain, or brown for potential spam. This sounds like a
special kind of message filter, that perhaps sets a header field or property
(e.g. X-moz-colour or X-moz-score) on incoming articles that is used when it is
displayed.
Even more powerful yet would be if I could colour entire threads, e.g. threads
with replies from me.
Using the current priority would be a bit of a hack.
