Details

With previous releases, you could install the java plugin by selecting jre.xpi from your local copy of the file, and it would install. This is no longer the case: the _only_ way to install jre now is via the hideously slow netscape web-based server. This is wrong -- untold hours will be wasted waiting on the net install, when it only takes a few seconds to install from a local copy of jre.xpi. We are not even addressing here the impossibility of installing java over the net from a 56K modem connection. --Doug
