Occasionally - Right-click to open a link in a new window brings up the new window unfocused behind the current window, but the new window should have focus.

Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:19.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/19.0
Build ID: 20130307023931

Steps to reproduce:

Windows 7 64-bit
Firefox 19.0.2
Navigate to google, youtube, hulu, lynda, flickr, any wordpress site, whatever...
Right-click a link in a page to open it in a new window.

Actual results:

About ten-percent of the time, the window will open *unfocused* behind the current focused window. This happens seemingly randomly. I cannot pin down why it's happening.

Expected results:

Any link brought up in a new window should be the window with focus -- the window on top. When I right-click a link in youtube or hulu, more often than not, it's because I'm planning on watching that video. Yes, the video starts rolling, but it starts behind the current window -- only occasionally. This is not limited to links with video. It's happened on google images, flickr and links on CMS-type sites to other pages on the same site.
My Firefox shows exactly the same behavior and I can't pinpoint any reason why. I'd say it's more like 20% of the time. It happens as well when I left click on a Netvibes link, which should always open in a new window (I don't use tabs). The new window will open, but randomly hides behind the Netvibes window about 20% of the time, not sure if the new window hides after it completed loading or during loading. I guess before loading is complete because sometimes it seems immediate, sometimes I get to see a bit of the new page first.

Does it work fine when disabling the Flash plugin? (in Tools → Addons → Plugins)
If yes, this is a duplicate of bug 790013.
Looks like the opposite problem to what i'm having. When i open a link in a new window, then use Alt+Tab to switch back to the window i came from, it jumps back to the new window automatically, unless i wait several seconds first.
Hi Chris,

I have tested the mentioned issues on latest Firefox release (43.0.4) and latest Nightly (46.0a1) and could not reproduce it. I opened multiple pages in a new window from different links but have not encountered the described issue.

Firefox: 43.0.4, Build ID: 20160105164030, User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:43.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/43.0
Firefox: 46.0a1, Build ID: 20160111030207, User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:46.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/46.0

Can you please test this on the latest Firefox release (43.0.4) or latest Nightly (46.0a1, https://nightly.mozilla.org/) and tell me if this still reproduces for you ? When doing this please use a new fresh Firefox profile, maybe also in safe mode (https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-and-diagnose-firefox-problems).

Thanks,
Cosmin.

Cosmin,

I'm using the latest Firefox, but also, converted to Windows 10. I have not seen the issue on Windows 10, yet. And it's hard to reproduce something that happens so randomly. I can only assume that since others have also seen the issue, it was not a random issue. But I confess, I've sort of moved away from Firefox as my main browser for a while *because* of this and other minor frustrations that made firefox less useful on my desktop machine.
