From Bugzilla Helper: User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC; en-US; rv:0.9+) Gecko/ BuildID: 20010605 Everytime I bring up the preference panel, the 'Navigator' category is selected. It should remember my last category that I was using. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Open Preference Panel. 2.Select Font Category. 3.Close Preference Panel. 4.Open Preference Panel again. Actual Results: Navigator category is selected. Expected Results: Font category should be selected (since that was the last one I used).

Why would this be useful? We currently open the appropriate panel for each app (Navigator for the browser, Mail and News for Mail, etc.). Most users won't be accessing prefs too often, this doesn't seem like a big deal.
What if you change something, discover it's not to your taste or needs further modification and need to play with it some more? Session-bound persistence would be a minimal requirement. Copying Simon Fraser
If you measured people's frequency of trips to the prefs dialog, and which panels, they opened, I'm sure you'd find that > 50% of the time, people go back to the panel they were last at. This is the well-known UI technique of 'keeping things the way the user last left them'. See also bug 77855.
Agreed. Everything about the prefs dialog should be the way it was when I left it -- the currently selected panel, the twisty state, the scroll position of the category list, and of course the prefs themselves.
