Details
While Netscape 4.x had one username/password pair per news server, Mozilla tried
to have a separate username/password pair per each newsgroup (it does not do
that correctly when reusing connections, but that is a separate issue). While I
can imagine a situation where this would be useful, this behaviour is very
annoying when you accessing a server with lots of groups and a common password
(which I believe to be much more common).
In short, this bug asks for:
- Add a preference to be able to choose between per-host and per-group
authentication.
- Make per-host a default.

It is on by default. In fact, per-group auth needs a hidden pref to be enabled.
