The only information needed for Graphite from the glyf table is the glyph's bounding box. This information is not readily available from the proposed SVG glyph table. Please could we have that added and then Graphite can work with SVG glyphs as easily as it does with the current glyf table. An alternative is that we simply say that all SVG glyphs have a bounding box of (0, 0, 0, 0) and people can't reference the bounding box within GDL. My concern for getting this table right is that thie table type could well be very useful for SignWriting fonts in the future. SignWriting is a 2D writing system and needs the concept of opaque glyphs. Hmm do SVG glyphs have the capability to overwrite an underneath glyph with background whatever the background is? Anyway it will be a big step forward.
