Details
User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.7; rv:20.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/20.0 Build ID: 20130326150557 Steps to reproduce: Opened Firefox. Actual results: Got "Well, this is embarrassing." "Firefox is having trouble recovering your windows and tabs." although there was no crash / Force Quit, and although I hadn't changed any settings. Perhaps the issue happens since the update to version 20.0 . Expected results: Normal start.
Are you able to reproduce the issue with a fresh profile and a few tabs loaded? https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profile-manager-create-and-remove-firefox-profiles
Flags: needinfo?(tobi)
Email from the reporter: "Hi I created a new Firefox profile for testing, the issue didn't happen. Tried some more things, can't reproduce the issue. Will switch to a fresh profile (as main profile, not for testing)." So I close the bug.

The issue is still present, so I changed the status of the bug, I hope that's equivalent to reopening it. The "Well, this is embarrassing" message often appears after reboot (on Mac OS X 10.7.5). Also perhaps relevant: I generally close Firefox via Dock -> FF icon -> click, hold -> Quit, with just file:///path/to/my_local_home_page.html open. Can you reproduce this? The "...embarassing..." message doesn't appear when I do "Firefox" -> "Quit Firefox" before shutting down the OS.

Can you verify if the problem happens after closing all open windows and then quit Firefox? see bug https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=845681#c2
I always leave one window open (which has my local home page file). Then before shutting down OS X, I do Dock -> Quit Firefox. This always worked fine, but recently (as reported) I'm getting the "embarassing" message. What I described above should work, correct? (without the message) I tried this right now: closed the last window, Dock -> Quit FF, start FF, got "Well, this is embarrassing".

I think(In reply to Tobi Reif from comment #5) > I tried this right now: closed the last window, Dock -> Quit FF, start FF, > got "Well, this is embarrassing". I think your problem is the same of bug 845681 it has been fixed and you'll not have this problem in the next Firefox releases. Thanks for reporting.
