Stephen, is this something that we would want to do?

Potentially… I think the important thing is some obvious message that things in this window are different. I don't think we want to add a separate PBM home page option.
A few options:
1) Add a "I get don't show me this message anymore" button and then just send subsequent Private windows to the default home page
2) Change the message to not be it's own page but instead have it embedded in the home page
I think some design work is needed here but I don't have an ETA on when UX can get around to it.

Stephen i think first option is the best & most suitable suggestion for this bug. Its sort of irritating to see the same tab if someone regularly uses PB along with the normal browsing.

Is this only about changing the home page? I asked for a similar feature for new tabs in bug 748530 which is even more useful in my opinion.

¡Hola!
Confirming as a user asked for this very same thing in https://support.mozilla.org/es/questions/1163600
I personally agree that the purple tab is not very stealthy nor private if somebody is peeking over your shoulder or looking at your screen from afar.
¡Gracias!
Alex

Ever confirmed: true
Version: 20 Branch → 54 Branch
Can this be looked at? It's pretty basic stuff, and probably trivial and very quick to fix with a new pref at least, too. And nowadays PBM is relatively widely utilized or known about. Some users browse heavily in PBM for whatever reasons.

It's funny that such a basic feature is still not implemented even after 7 years.

Going on 11 years now.
How about just an about:config option to change the homepage from about:privatebrowsing to some other string? If a decision is ever reached regarding the UI, that UI can update the above setting.
