A recent discussion has occured on n.p.m.unix regarding possibly adding a hard dependancy on gdk-pixbuf . No such dependancy exists currently, however if it resides on the build machine there is no control whether it is used or not. On IRIX, the official fw_gdk-pixbuf package is dependant on ~10 other packages, which in turn have other dependancies. IMHO it should not be automaticually used until the powers that be have added such a hard dependancy.

Actually, it's a soft dependency not a hard one. Prodding drivers for a decision.

Does mozilla use gdk-pixbuf or gdk-pixbuf-xlib (I am not expert in the details of this)? What does xlib port use? (I hope for it to be the default some day)

Can we at least add some control over this dependancy while it is undecided ... and perhaps enable it by default rather than disabled by default as my patch has it?
Checkin for 83920 removes the use of gdkpixbuf entirely from the gtk port. We'll revisit the issue when we move to gtk2, where gdkpixbuf is a standard component, but for now it was causing too many problems. Closing.
