User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:20.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/20.0

sounds like bug 794900 for example
Click any of the links on this page while holding down the CTRL key: http://www.metabones.com/products
A new tab will still open, but the page will change in the original tab as well. That is not the expected or desired behaviour. Behaviour should be the same as a right click/open in new tab.
Flags: needinfo?(bugzilla)
Also, many facebook pages display this incorrect behaviour, but I don't know of any facebook pages I care to share. Please try on your own facebook accounts and confirm. Not all, but many links in the feed or on pages (images seem to be especially bad for this) will follow the URL in the open tab as well as opening a new tab with a CTRL click.

ctrl+click is implemented in Firefox code, not in Gecko.

Hi reporter,
I was able to reproduce this on the link you provided(http://www.metabones.com/products) using the latest release(44.0) and latest Nightly(47.0a1) Firefox versions. Only links containing images are opening in a new tab and in the current tab, when you ctrl + click them. Other links behaves as expected. On Facebook, any link or picture I ctrl + click on opens in a new tab and not in the current one. But here are exceptions. For example, if you ctrl + click on the profile picture, it will open on the same tab, without opening a new tab with the picture, just as you would normal click it. This behavior is the same in other browsers, such as IE and Chrome, and makes me believe that this is site specific or link specific intended behavior.

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; rv:47.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/47.0

Considering this, I'm eager to mark this issue as RESOLVED INVALID, since this is not Firefox's fault. Could you please confirm that this is happening as well on your provided link and on Facebook using other browsers?
Thanks,
Paul.

For me, when I ctrl-click on links on the metabones page, I get a new tab AND the current tab reacts to my click. That doesn't seem like correct behaviour. Shouldn't it be one or the other?
It seems to me that correct behaviour is to do exactly what the user expects. If they're pressing ctrl, it's for a reason.
It seems like this should work anywhere right-click/"open in new tab" works.

Hi reporter,
Did you tried this using other browsers? On my end, Chrome and IE have the same behavior on the page you provided. That makes me believe that this is not a Firefox issue since other browsers have the same behavior, and is more related to how the website was build. I agree with you that holding down ctrl when clicking a link should open the link in a new tab, but I don't think that this is an Firefox problem. On Facebook any link you ctrl + click opens a new tab, except the profile picture. This is reproducible on all browsers, because that is how Facebook works. Can you please check this issue using other browsers and provide back your results? Your environment may be different than mine, so we may not have the same feedback.
Thanks,
Paul.

'Ctrl+click' on a link of page[http://www.metabones.com/products] modifies the main page as well.
It is reproducible in Firefox and chrome but not in Edge and IE-11.
It is also duplicate of bug:151142.
