Firefox Sync password with extended characters not correctly saved locally

Details
I created a new Firefox Sync account using a password that contains the two following characters: "é" and "(".
Everytime I started Firefox, I had an error message from Sync saying: "Sync encountered an error while syncing: Incorrect account name or password. Sync will automatically retry this action. [Preferences]"
By poking around, I discovered that my Sync password saved in Firefox was not exactly the same as the one I entered first: "Options" -> "Security" -> "Saved passwords" -> "Show passwords". For instance, it showed the character "©" where it should have been a "(".
If you try to change your password once Sync is set up to insert some special character like "é" or "(", Sync will refuse it and display "There was an error changing your password".

This issue persists in Firefox 31.0. I'm not sure abour the "(" character since it seems to be saved correctly (maybe with one extra character following the opening parentheses) but for me the failing character was the Euro sign "€".
I would also like to add that the first Sync update (after retyping the password in Firefox Sync preferences) works well. Maybe it just works until the running Firefox relation is closed, I'm not sure.

This bugs starts to get really annoying. It still persists in Firefox 34.0. How comes it has been reported a year and a half ago and yet it is even unconfirmed? Hell, I confirm! :D

The old Firefox Sync system is deprecated. If this bug affects Firefox Accounts, then it'll be more likely to be fixed.

Do I have to report it elsewhere? Because the Sync error still pops up in Firefox 34.0. I have noticed it since when I startd to use Synchronization in Firefox 31.0 sometime in August or earlier and the bug persists.
Or is Firefox Sync the system included in Firefox 34.0 although it is deprecated and unmaintained?

Correct. Old Sync will continue to work, but you can't set up a new client.
To test, create a new Firefox Account in a new profile, use a similar password, and see what happens.

We're working on a migration path for users of "old sync" to the new system. You can also manually migrate to the new sync system by disconnecting from the old sync and then creating a Firefox Account.

Old Sync is on its way to being decommissioned, so I'm marking this WONTFIX.
