See Bug 852041 and Bug 852030, there's a new async API which we eventually also want to use (maybe must use, not sure if and when the old sync API will be going away).
First fix will be to use the new BookmarkJSONUtils.exportToFile async API instead of the sync PlacesUtils.saveBookmarksToJSONFile.
