Not sure how this slipped by, but this is a regression from bug 834284. Selected tabs using the default theme are completely unreadable.

Tested on Ubuntu with and without a lightweight theme.

This seems like something we could easily make a test for at some point.

Not reproducible locally on a pre-fix build, so we can't verify this:
