* GOAL: summarize the key highlights and best makes / moments from the MOOC community each week * To publish each Monday * Try to find Super Mentor or MOOC participant to own this work each week * will get published on the Webmaker blog (blog.webmaker.org), published there by Lainie * will includes highlights from previous week + tee up current week's theme
* As per discussion with Lainie today. She will follow up in Super Mentor call. * we decided using Storify and then embedding it in a blog post was probably the best workflow for this. * See this example: http://storify.com/OpenMatt/teach-the-web-open-online-course-from-mozilla
Super Mentor Call agenda will be here: https://teach.etherpad.mozilla.org/SuperMentorCall I'm writing a task list with "prizes" for super mentors, trying to get them more involved by attaching rewards and due dates to small tasks. The list will be here: https://teach.etherpad.mozilla.org/SuperMentorTasks and we'll share that with the Super Mentors on Thursday's call. Will be talking about this in today's mentor team call :)
Michelle just shared these for next week's Storify: Just sharing a few links + threads of stuff that stood out this week. Maybe useful for storytelling and beyond! * Learner going from reluctance about MOOCs to loving our authority-less format: http://iridescentlearning.blogspot.de/2013/05/the-problem-with-moocs-you-see-is-that.html * Remix of a remix of a remix of a remix: https://plus.google.com/u/0/106015684066365608417/posts/bb7LWAmGknk * Learners who get to know each other by remixing profiles: https://plus.google.com/u/0/103009061956191088385/posts/BdJyCtwUKKu * Revenge Remixing: https://plus.google.com/u/0/112984462841298392532/posts/f27EatMh315 and http://kavubob.wordpress.com/2013/05/07/quick-note-on-webmaker-and-teachtheweb/
* I just created a generic "Teach_the_Web" Storify account that we could share with anyone in an open way. (* this is extremely low-risk and no-cost, so don't think there's much danger in sharing the password openly like this. can always change later if it becomes a problem) 1) Log in here: http://storify.com/ 2) Username: Teach_the_Web 3) Password: teachtheweb 4) Hit "create story" 5) Drag in in content * Starting with #teactheweb on twitter is probably easiest * We haven't yet found a good way to pull in G+ content. :( You can also pull in any web page or image by pasting in its URL using the "embed URL" feature on the right
Matt Jukes is on it for Week 2 - yay! Just shared some of the info about with him via email.
Outstanding! CCed him on this ticket.
You are just forcing me to use Bugzilla because of that dig I made on Twitter about it aren't you :) I'll pull something together tomorrow morning (UK time) and then if it needs any tweaking I can fix it up Sunday evening based on any feedback. Hope that sounds OK. Jukesie
Lovely!
Here you go - needs a bit of a tidy up probably and I need to sort the licenses on the Flickr screenshots but hope its ok http://storify.com/jukesie/week-two-webmakerwins
VERY helpful, thank you! I might trim a few so there's only one "click to read more." Can you also add a note to the top that just mentions this week's theme: the open web. Let me know when it's ready to go. Would love if you'd share on G+ and I can send around via @mozteach and embed into a Webmaker blog post. Thanks again! Lainie
<high five> Juksie! Thanks for all the help. Matt recommended I share here a few wins that came out of the MOOC in week 2 for consideration in including in the storify. * Learner helps kindergarten teacher understand Popcorn Maker and she does her own video. Tutorial: http://popcorn.webmadecontent.org/11hn Thread with her vid: https://plus.google.com/u/0/114606369611068204540/posts/7UxBRjCyjrY * Firefox's 3D view and tilt spurs cool thread about visualizing and 3D-printing the structure of web pages: http://dogtrax.edublogs.org/2013/05/11/climbing-the-architecture-of-a-website/ * Deb makes CSS tutorials in Thimble using MDN documentation. https://plus.google.com/u/0/112891629927815203476/posts/Qi3zWtmwVGA Definitely lots more, but those stood out for me! PS. This is a great post about the channels + platforms we use for the MOOC. Good feedback for next iterations: http://johnjohnston.info/blog/?e=2384
Hi gang added the links Michelle suggested - trimmed the overall content so it is just 2 pages and added a reference to week 3 the #openweb (I'll add a link to the HiveNYC site once thats updated..) http://storify.com/jukesie/week-two-webmakerwins the embed on my wordpress site has gone a bit weird http://digitalbydefault.com/2013/05/13/week-two-webmakerwins/ but isn't too bad. Hope its all ok. jukesie
Thanks a million!
No worries. I won't be around for week 3 but if you need someone to do Week 4 just drop me a line - I actually have a couple of days off so could do it and have a better feel for it now so would be quicker..
@ Matt: this was absolutely outstanding. Can't tell you how important it is for us to have this kind of high-quality storytelling. Very very nicely done. :) * This will hit the webmaker blog as a post Tuesday 9am ET * Do we have any volunteers for week 3?

If you are stuck and noone steps up email me Sunday and I'll see if I can pull something together - been flat out this week so haven't really kept up and am at an event Saturday but at the moment I have a couple of hours free Sunday probably..
You'd be my hero! If not, no worries, but since you offered... Let me know when you can. Thanks!
* Lainie / Matt: does someone want to take this on as part of the final wrap-up week?
